Washington University School of Medicine and BJC Healthcare are making room for a new twelve-story administrative office building with a basement on the south side of Children’s Place. PayneCrest is working with Clayco on a fast-paced schedule to install all electrical components of the project including; electrical service and distribution, power distribution, lighting systems, fire alarm, emergency power, security and audio/visual. The work also includes installation of two double-ended closed transition substations in the basement of the building on both east and west ends to serve two building risers for distribution.
The Mid-Campus Substation to the east of the site is being upgraded to provide sufficient capacity on the 4,160 volt feeders to service the new building. Two 4,160 volt feeders will be routed in concrete-encased duct bank between the Mid-Campus Substation and the CBHQ building. Both will feed the east end and the west end of the CBHQ building. The new building is being designed in accordance with over 20 codes and standards and will be LEED Silver Certified with optimized energy performance and water use reduction credits among others.
The new building will provide over 40,000-square-feet of space per floor and will house offices for the dean and administrative staff and corporate offices for Washington University School of Medicine and BJC HealthCare. It also will include a WUSM/BJH joint security center, a bookstore and Kaldi’s Coffee, and conference rooms.
