Part of a $3.8 billion project at the Wood River Refinery, the CORE project increased the refinery’s capacity to produce gas, jet fuel, diesel and other petroleum products from Canadian oil sands. As one of the largest projects in the nation and largest project in the Metro East in 20 years, PayneCrest took on additional assignments to help the construction team catch up on milestones and deliver the highest quality possible. PayneCrest provided critical electrical construction support for several components of the refinery including the coker plant and associated systems, the final connection and commissioning of several large substations, the installation of the new coke handling system, the installation of the Sulfur Recovery Unit (SRU), and several auxiliary systems, including a large heat trace project that encompassed the entire Wood River Refinery site.
